New Things!

Hello Everyone,

Well isn't this another new way to express ourselves. Hopefully I can get the hang of this one and shortly start posting up information about myself and blog my way through my ICTs subject.

I've just managed to put a Voki on my blog as part of an activity, however, I'm not sure the point of it yet?

Please feel free to comment on any of my blogs because I believe feedback is an excellent learning tool.

Thanks

  1. I have no idea what the point of a VOKI is either.

Maybe they're like those old-fashioned "mobiles" of animals, etc, that our parents used to hang over our cots? They may grab our attention, but weren't we supposed to be falling asleep?

Similarly, in a learning environment, I can see the risk of such ICTs as attention-seeking gimmicks, rather than real aides to learning. Still, that's just me, Grumpy Old Man. Bah humbug!

  2. Flippancy aside, a Voki, or similar, can obviously be used to stimulate those auditory learners (and those with visual impairments) who might not be engaged as easily by large chunks of text.

Other ideas would be for a teacher can pre-record an intro to a lesson and play it whilst setting up classroom equipment, etc.

Aside from the fact that young learners would enjoy "playing" with setting up their own Vokis, they may use it to record an introduction or summary of a school project they've undertaken, for example - particularly useful for those who are averse to standing at the front of class and presenting in person (I meant learners, not teachers ;o)
